Financial Lines Underwriter – French Market (Based in Spain)

We are seeking a Financial Lines Underwriter / Junior Underwriter to join a growing underwriting team focused on the French market. This is an excellent opportunity for an insurance professional with experience in Financial Lines to manage and grow a portfolio while working closely with brokers and clients across France.

Location: Spain

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse financial, economic, and industry data relating to large commercial and financial institution accounts.
  • Assess risks and provide underwriting recommendations in line with underwriting authority and internal guidelines.
  • Determine appropriate terms, conditions, and pricing for Financial Lines risks.
  • Negotiate with brokers to secure and retain profitable business.
  • Draft and review policy wordings and contract clauses in collaboration with Product Development teams.
  • Issue quotations, policy documentation, and endorsements.
  • Develop and maintain strong broker relationships across the French market.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, seminars, and client meetings.
  • Ensure underwriting files are complete, compliant, and audit-ready.
  • Manage, retain, and grow the assigned portfolio of business.

Key Requirements

  • Around 2 - 5 years of Financial Lines experience on the insurer/carrier side.
  • Strong knowledge of one or more of the following products: (i) Directors & Officers (D&O) (ii) Professional Indemnity (PI) (iii) Financial Institutions (FI) (iv) Crime
  • Ability to analyse financial statements, operational information, and key risk indicators.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Native French speaker with fluent English.
  • Strong understanding of French business culture and market practices.
  • Proactive, commercially minded, and capable of managing broker relationships independently.
